The sequel to the hit series THE JUNGLE BOOK, LAST OF THE SPECIES follows the further adventures of Mowglii, her mentors Baloo and Bagheera, and the rest of the warring tribes of Kipling Island. While the first series stuck close to Rudyard Kipling’s original short stories, this series propels the lead characters in a more original adventure as the tribes begin moving closer to the prophesized Great War. This series not only introduces more tribes above and below the island of Kipling, but it also brings the four children, not learning to master their unique abilities of their tribes closer together.
I was extremely pleased to follow up THE JUNGLE BOOK with this new original chapter. Fleshing out some of the characters and answering questions like “Why is Baloo the only bear on the island of Kipling” was truly fun. This series also featured backup stories by myself and my good friend and AICN cohort Rob Patey which fleshed out some of the backstory leading up to the arrival of the children. This series allowed me to take Mowglii and fan favorites like Akili of the Tribe Tavi, Bomani the Son of Shere Khan, and the insane monkey-boy Dewan to new directions. I also loved pushing the narrative forward towards the inevitable battle to come! Again, Zenescope Entertainment allowed me the freedom to take this series into directions I never thought imaginable.
