BETTY’S REVENGE (2026)

A trio of college students doing research on urban legends seek out a nightclub that suspiciously burned down in the 1930’s and finds its reclusive owner, a former cabaret singer named Betty (V/H/S’s “I Like You” girl Hannah Fierman). But once they uncover Betty’s story, they find themselves trapped in the nightclub and fighting for their lives.

So yeah, Betty Boop went into the public domain along with Minnie Mouse, Steamboat Willie, and Popeye, so of course, you’ve gotta make her into a slasher! And look who’s back to helm this movie? The director of MINNIE’S MIDNIGHT MASSACRE himself, Brett B. Bentman, who seems to be a busy guy these days. Two public domain slasher films in one year? He also did a horror version of ALADDIN and ALADDIN’S REVENGE, something called MAFIANADO, as well as seven other films this year. Geez Louise, this guy’s been busy.

But seeing the amount of effort put into MINNIE’S MIDNIGHT MASSACRE and BETTY’S REVENGE, I can understand how he is able to produce so many films in such little time. Pardon the pun, but BETTY’S REVENGE is a half-cooked film. Somewhere along the line it had potential. It’s trying to make Betty into this tragic character. Someone who was betrayed by men who saw her as a plaything and tossed her into the fire when they were done with her. It could have been an interesting little tale of tragedy. Unfortunately, the film takes the easy route and simply traps three kids in a mansion they inexplicably cannot get out of. They’re trapped in there with Betty who kills them for no real reason other than because they are there.

The best part about this film is the lovely Hannah Fierman who looks like the wide-eyed Boop and has the acting chops to be both beautiful and menacing. Unfortunately, again, though, she isn’t given much to do. Inexplicably, Boop doesn’t say a word for the first three quarters of the film. Then in the final act, she’s Chatty Cathy and Fierman finally gets to do a decent “Boop-oop-be-doop!” The script isn’t doing her any favors though, failing to give her any kind of cohesive motivation. She just kills because this is a horror movie and that’s what you do, I guess. Hannah Fierman is way too talented an actor to be in something like this.

Brett Bentman seems to want to make a name in the horror biz. He’s written, directed, and produced close to 75 movies in the last ten years. Both BETTY’S REVENGE and MINNIE’S MIDNIGHT MASSACRE have small nuggets of potential in them. Maybe if a little more time, thought, and effort was put into one or two of these projects, Bentman might stumble into making a good one. As is, I think I’ve spent more time writing this review than Bentman did on BETTY’S REVENGE.
