Ingrid (Jessica Hunt) and Jenny (Meghan Adara) attempt to move on from past trauma with their abusive father and a fateful night the two of them messed around with a Ouija board.

THEY WAIT IN THE SHADOWS is an emotionally charged thriller about attempting to start over against unsurmountable odds. After their father passes away, Ingrid and Jenny decide to move back in together which reopens old wounds they thought were buried long ago. Both Ingrid and Jenny have their own issues. Ingrid is reclusive and trusts no one. Jenny is promiscuous and has difficulty taking anything seriously. Both are haunted by dreams of each other in demonic forms, tempting them to do evil things. Both are keeping these demons at bay, but the dreams keep getting stronger.

While the stakes are pretty low, this small budgeter packs an emotional wallop. It’s more of a drama-heavy thriller than straight up horror. The performances are decent from the two leads and being an older brother myself, I find myself liking any film that treats the complex relationships between siblings, and THEY WAIT IN THE SHADOWS deals with all of that in a mature way.

THEY WAIT IN THE SHADOWS is going to be a little too soupy for hardcore horror fans, but if you take a chance on it, you get to see spray painted beauties acting all demonic and sultry, which ain’t half bad. And along with those beauties, there’s a tragic tale of trauma going on as well.
