When a lonely guy named Lawrence (Austin Buchanan) meets a woman named Holly (Bryn Booth) in a bar, it looks like the two hit is off in ways that only happen in cliched movies. But Lawrence soon wakes up in chains in a basement and finds that Holly and her identical twin sister Willow (also played by Bryn Booth) are keeping him bound as a twisted experiment.

10 FT DOWN is a charming little number. It’s very low stakes and pretty much takes place in one lone area for the entire runtime. Thankfully, both lead actors (or should I say all three since one actor plays two people) are very talented. Austin Buchanan plays a character that might be seen as rather creepy, but by the end of the film, I found the guy endearing—especially after all the torture he suffers from Holly and Willow. But the real standout of the film is Bryn Booth who plays the double role of the twins. Booth has these compelling green eyes that seem to emote volumes with only a few words. She’s a powerful actress and I believe she is sure to go places once she gets the right role. Seeing these two actors spar with threats and secrets is the highlight of the film.

This is a dialog heavy piece, and yet I never found myself bored with the film. It’s got some pretty messed up scenes—especially a particularly viscerally potent scene of self-harm later in the film. But this isn’t a wham bang action piece. This is more of a stage play or a chamber piece, which is always fun to watch as it gives the actors room to really strut their stuff. And both actors do here.

Again, this is a low fi horror film, but nevertheless,10 FT DOWN is a well-acted and sour little story for fans who don’t need a lot of frills to be entertained.
