Thanks for the review. We will have to disagree on this one. I’m tired of folks talking about films being Meta.. yes this is Meta- but thats not a good thing! I won’t spoil this film for your readers, but I’ve never had to suspend disbelief as much as I did for this film. This film belongs in the pile of Hot Garbage that Halloween Kills is in.

It’s far from a perfect movie. But having watched all of the Screams this week, I have to admit I was caught up in the story and buzz. The thing is, I’ve never been a Scream fanatic. I found the whole series to be sort of demeaning to the genre it firmly rests in.
In the movie itself, I think past the original, you really do have to suspend the disbelief quite a bit to accept any of the sequels. But accepting that fact, the film worked for me. I didn’t figure out the killer from the jump and there were some well done kills, effects, sequences. I liked the kill where the knife pierces through the neck twice slowly. I also really dug the buildup to that kill and laughed along with the rest of the audience as the anticipation grew.
One of the things i”ve been holding back is that I really haven’t liked a Wes Craven film in years. Everyone is going out of their way talking about his genius and he was awesome at times. But he also shat out some god awful stinkers over the last thirty years. After he went Hollywood, his quality dropped exponentially. Might do a editorial soon about just that.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. Sorry you didn’t dig it.
