Oh the weather outside is gol-durned frightful these days. Maybe that isn’t the case everywhere, but in my neck of the woods (Chicago), it’s cold as hell. Sounds to me like a great time to do a countdown focused on horror in the snow. For me, horror films set in the snow adds an extra layer of “chills” to the experience. Your movement is hampered. Your vision is not as good. And there’s such an awesome contrast between red blood and white fallen snow.
This January, I’m going to be counting down the best of the best in snowy horror films. So bundle up, make a hot cup of cocoa, and join me for the Best in Snow Covered Horror starting Monday!
Another great countdown theme! The best snowy horror movie, here’s the thing, should be a fun one to predict.

This is actually one of my favorite sub-subgenre of horror. There’s something about snow that makes things more scary. Maybe I can get to the bottom of it in this countdown. Thanks for following.

With exception to The Thing..I’m drawing a blank! This should be cool. BTW- any chance you can get a horror movie marathon in Chicago going? Boy- If you could get any spot in the suburbs, ( Rosemont, Woodfield etc ) that would be awesome. I know Chicago has theatres … but most are dingy and a PITA to get to. Most suburban theatres have comfy seats, free parking, booze and other amenities. I’m sure you and Prokopy can pull it off.

How about some of these: Pod, Horror Express, Dead Snow 1 & 2, The Children, Devil’s Pass, The Abominable Snowman, Dreamcatcher, The Shining, Let the Right One In, 30 Days of Night, Harbinger Down, The Grey and Extinction? When I think of The Keep It seems set in the snow but I guess it’s really just cold.

I guarantee some of those are on the list.

I would love to do something. I’ve been tossing ideas around with Steve. Maybe a halfway to Halloween thing. So it’s not out of the question.
I’d love to screen some of these films that don’t get theater screenings except at festivals.
