Like many of you, I plan on going to see BLADE RUNNER 2049 this weekend. I’m wondering what you guys thought about it.
Did Denis Villeneuve’s film stack up to the high standard of the original?
Surpass your expectations?
Underwhelm you?
What are the differences and similarities between the two?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the Commentsverse below.

I saw it twice this weekend…..here’s some thoughts.
I cant believe they made this movie. It is loooong, slow, somber, almost devoid of action, almost devoid of real bad guy(s), and pretty much centers around a simple mystery.
And i loooooved it.
Full disclosure: I am a massive fan of the original movie. But that made me more scared and critical of the new outing. It would have been easy..and expected..for them to churn out a big budget sequel/reboot with a bunch of fan service and tons of action and over the top replicant hunting. They didnt.
Instead they created an honest-to-goodness SciFi Noir flick. They found a VERY creative plot device to tie this movie to the original. The references to the original were amazing but not overly used…just enough to drop breadcrumbs for the mystery. (There’s a cameo that made me audibly squeal).
Gossling is great. Ford was surprisingly good…i loved the writing for his character. The movie intentionally doesnt answer some questions but doesnt answer them in the best possible way. Leto was outstanding….he wasnt in it much…and not even that bad of a baddie…but he had a haunting delivery and presence.
I feel the best performances were by De Armas as an A.I. girlfriend and Sylvia Hoeks as Leto’s henchwoman. I cant get to much into detail as im staying 100% spoiler free, but they are powerful characters.
All this being said, i can see this movie not registering with alot of folks. If i wasnt so invested in the Blade Runner universe, the pacing and somberness would have knocked my review down some. I also think it pales in comparison to the original BUT is a reallllllly cool idea and continuation of the universe.
Finally…if you are a fan of the original…do see this one in the theater…one of the biggest accomplishments is the visuals and sounds of this universe….go see it on a BIG screen. Its breathtaking stuff.
Peace .n. Its a test..designed to provoke an emotional response.

I felt it matched the original in tonality. I found it complimentary to the first in nearly every way. My only complaint would be that the music was huge part of the original. While good, the soundtrack/score just did not mesh well with the Vangelis original.
