Love your reviews, but this was hot garbage. First- Was their an outcry for these bit characters to come back? Tommy ? Really? Green needs to understand gore doesn’t make a film great. Yes- the body count is through the roof, but its so dull. The entire middle of the film is a slog that we know is going nowhere. Is Green trying to make a comment on current status in America with this Mob mentality? Maybe it would have been more relevant if it came out last year during that climate- but it falls on deaf ears this year. Halloween Kills commits the Cardinal Sin… It’s a Scary Movie that’s Not Scary… or fun. Love your reviews.. Keep them coming!
Cheers,

I get what you’re talking about. This is very much a film that can’t be enjoyed by itself. I think it works better and will work better if it is watched as the trilogy Green is working on.
I was trying to take notice of the mob theme and try to relate it to real world stuff. I think more than trying to relate it to real world issues, it was more about showing how Michael is ever present. More than just a killer, but something that has been terrorizing the town for years. Having come from a small town, there are things about Lima, Ohio that are well known, mainly we had an up and coming basketball player who everyone thought was going to be the next Michael Jordan. Then, the kid went to college and got into a lot of trouble which resulted in ending his career, This stung the whole town and a lot of people were affected by it. For a long time, the city was known for producing a great player who fizzled out early. So having an incident haunt a town and build resentment is a theme I can relate to in a way.
There were a lot of clunky lines and weird decisions by characters like Karen. I would rather Green dredge up some obscure characters than waste time introducing new ones. By bringing those characters in, I feel Green is using a shorthanded way of bringing in a character with a bit of backstory. We don’t need more flashbacks, though I liked the ones we got.
It’s not a perfect movie, but I liked it. Sorry it disappointed you.

Great story on the Small town mentality and this basketball player pissing his life away. I can’t imagine how bad he feels. I’m hoping you are right on the Trilogy bringing this together. It seems as we are viewing Myers metamorphose into the Jason Vorhees, & I’m not sure I like that.
